APPRECIATE WHAT YOU HAVE NOW

I have spent the last two weeks, both night and day, with my mother in the hospital. She has been under close medical care for over thirty days, from a fall which required major surgery.

I've been tending to her, doing my best to help her recover back to health.

I find myself thinking about how precious the gift of life is.

Most of us take our health for granted and we don't really invest time in thinking about the impermanence of life; how it can end at any given moment...

Invariably, we spend most of our days thinking about our daily troubles and difficulties, instead of enjoying the love we share with others, not to mention all the beauty and goodness existing around us.

We often don't think of expressing to our loved ones how much we truly treasure them.

I feel I've been given a second chance with my mother; unfortunately, I cannot say the same about my late father, may he rest in peace.

I talk to my mother about things I would have never thought of sharing with her, cherishing each and every moment.

I find myself closer to her than I have ever been.

Is there a price tag on that?

It's as if I was meant to be there, to connect with her more deeply, whilst listening to her sharing  her life story with me.

Amazing ...

How fortunate am I to be able to look at her from a completely different point of view. To see things I have not seen before...

I treasure my time with my mother, because I know every minute counts ...

Don't wait until "something happens" or else God forbid, you may not have another chance.

Tell the people that you love how you feel about them. Spend as much time as you can nurturing and cultivating the relationships that are important to you.

You may not get another opportunity, when you finally realize what you've missed.

Appreciate what you have now, not after it's long gone...
